@tperry2x:
I was going to add this in the more relevant thread where you'd mentioned your departure, but as that's locked here we are.
I just wanted to thank you for your work here. The IDE refinements are moist welcome, and your discussions here have prompted valuable thinking that will have a lasting influence.
Best of luck in your future ventures.

Re: Ballyhoo in Auld Reekie
He is leaving as he is 'totally fried' by what he, in a private note to me described as "someone's toxic remarks" (not mine, for a change).
I have written to him begging him to reconsider, and I have also contacted the "remarker" privately. Let us hope things resolve themselves in a positive way, as tPerry2x has really done a lot of heroic work and "heavy lifting", and it is a very great shame that, owing to someone's comments, he feels he cannot continue, and is even removing his work from the download site.
As his work is Open Source (obviously, as built on top of LC open source) I suppose anyone who has downloaded his work can upload it again, and I could do that, but I would feel a bit funny (open source or not) doing that as he has so pointedly removed it.
We are in a very sticky situation owing to this . . .

I don't know what SimScale and Fusion360 are, but they are NOT LiveCode.
https://livecode.com/livecode-and-ventura-racing/
And it turns out that Kevn Miller went to James Gillespies a while back: so this has obviously got a lot to do with Kevin Miller and not very much to do with LiveCode.
Surely programming the toy cars with LiveCode would have been just the thing to do.

Re: Ballyhoo in Auld Reekie
I'm unable to find it now, but yesterday he posted the final version of his IDE with a note that he would not be taking it further.
At the time, given the many threads here about the need for engine work, I read his post as a reasonable outcome of the current state of the OpenXTalk project. We need engineering, no one here is an engineer, so until funding is found to fix the engine further work on non-engine elements is of limited value.
Since we'd all been discussing the increasingly-critical need for engine repairs, it hadn't occurred to me that anyone would stop work on non-engine elements for any other reason. It's very helpful to know the reason, and I appreciate Richmond bringing this up here so we can address it.
The turning point in this conversation seems to rest with this comment I'd made in reply to Richmond:
As I clarified shortly after, this is not a new disagreement between Richmond and I, and I've always found tPerry2x's contributions here valuable.FourthWorld wrote: ↑Sun Nov 19, 2023 3:45 pm I've seen how you write. Re: Ballyhoo in Auld Reekie
I probably got the wrong end of the stick, or took it too personally (or both).
I do lack "social skills", and I'm not the best at taking criticism. My writing style can come across as quit acerbic at times, but it's not intentional.
I just needed to go and cool off before making any rash decisions.
I've been mulling this over, and decided that I shouldn't be blowing this out of proportion and I probably took it the wrong way anyway.
Re the engine, I had been dabbling in the github code on paul's fork, and think I found how to disable the registration requirement, but can't make the changes "stick". Paul will probably get a notification of my efforts. I think I've identified another issue in that OXT requires another project to be updated (https://chromium.googlesource.com/external/gyp.git/), to first be fixed. So I think there's errors there to fix which I'm looking into.

Your assistance on this is appreciated.richmond62 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 10:32 am He is leaving as he is 'totally fried' by what he, in a private note to me described as "someone's toxic remarks" (not mine, for a change).

If "toxic remarks" are a concern, PHPBB includes a block feature like most other forum apps, though it is easily overlooked because it's clumsily named "Foe" (see "Friends and Foes" in the CP). This labeling has been an item of discussion in the PHPBB forums, and will hopefully be made clearer in a future version.
As for "toxic remarks", your "not mine, for a change" is a welcome acknowledgement. These forums are overflowing with page after page, thread after thread, of toxic spew directed at a company that has no involvement with this OpenXTalk project at all. It's unlikely they'll ever see it. All it does is potentially confuse newcomers who have to wade through it to find the subset of content that's actually about using and contributing to the OpenXTalk project.
If my occasionally drawing attention to this one-man content farm of anti-LC index fodder is the only thing perceived as "toxic" here, I may simply be in the wrong place.

Fusion360 is a CAD design tool which we used up until recently at our school.richmond62 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 20, 2023 1:27 pm I don't know what SimScale and Fusion360 are, but they are NOT LiveCode.
We ditched it in favour of Sketchup about a month ago. I've never heard of SimScale I'm afraid.

We're all imperfect humans on an imperfect planet. And writing is a low-bandwidth form of communication. Between my fingers and your eyes is plenty of space for my expressions to be seen with different intent. We all do this. Talking it out here is the second-best resolution, the first being talking it out over a whiskey at the local pub.
