Having apparently been bankrupt at least once, his holiness decides to lecture us:

I have run a company for 19 years and never, ever told anyone else how to run their business, nor come up with
buzz-word jargon such as 'pre-mortem': which, on the face of it sounds like preparation for death.

My friend Cecil, who is sitting in my house while my wife and I are at work, mucking around with
the 10 day LC trial, found something odd in a message he got from KM's bot today:

"I started LiveCode 15 years ago so that people all over the world can develop software themselves to develop their own startup business."

Emphasis is mine.

Now, as it is well documented that KM started LC (then called 'Runtime Revolution') in 1997 . . .

2023 - 1997 = 26

Well, that's either bad Maths, a Lie, or whoever wrote that email didn't know what they were talking about.

Cecil also pointed out that this was odd:

"Whatever you are trying to achieve with LiveCode the most successful people in our community started in exactly the same position as you are now, learning a new tool to help them achieve their goal. You can do it too."

Original emphasis.

Cecil hasn't touched programming since he worked with COBOL in about 1985.

So that is a totally nonsensical statement.

Unfortunately, neither my friend Cecil, nor I, are such blithering idiots that
absolutely bottom-line, lowest common denominator, advertising copy is going
to cut much mustard with us.

I, also, pointed out that the word 'community' was a seriously compromised word in the context of LC.

1997 Hmm? Maybe that's when they were doing their 'Mavis Beacon Typing Tutor' stacks?
I was under the impression that MetaCard (which dates back to 1991/92) wasn't purchased (not exactly 'started') by KM and Co. and subsequently renamed 'RunRev' until around 2001/2002? Also I was under the impression that it basically started from working up a nicer UI and other improvements on MetaCard, to bits which had open-source all along (the IDE). The plain-C/C++ engine code base I believe is about 30-31 years old this year, and the wider 'xTalk' world (HyperCard) is about 36 years old. And that in turn was based on concepts like Dynabook, Xerox PARC NoteCard, HyperText, etc. that date back to the 1960s.

I've run across some of their financial docs online, seemed a bit sketchy but I wasn't entirely sure what I was looking at, and anyway what do I know? I've never run my own business (unless you count the occasional freelance work) and I have absolutely no desire to 'develop my own startup business' and stress over that at my age.
