As I have been teaching a short course to children between 9 and 16 years old every summer for the last 7-8 years I have
quite a backlog of materials and so on and will work my way (probably from November when my ESL school stabilises)
to bunging quite a lot of it up here in some vaguely sequential fashion.

That would be fantastic Richmond!

It might be good, given LC's new position on OpenSource, to move similar open source discussions like that "Edutainment" thread, or the MetaCard porting threads over there to over here in case they decide to delete that whole Open Source forum section. They are clearly no longer the "OpenSource Company" they once humble-bragged about being.

I do feel that, as well as a section chock full of stacks that can be used for education, we need a section for
discussion about educational methodology as well.

One of the very difficult thing for educators (whether of computer programming or anything else) is to
think themselves back to the level of psychological development they were at when they were, say, 9 or 10.

Certainly someone else's 'Education' section does not take any psychological considerations into account at all.

Richmond's Gentle LiveCode

originally posted on a Pensioners' Forum, shifted all material to a Facebook page when faced with questions such as
"How is LiveCode different from Windows?" and "How can I use LiveCode to write my memoirs?":

Hey Richmond, the link to my site is no longer live. The new permanent home for all community LC installers and various other materials is here:

https://archive.org/search.php?query=livecode%2Cinc

If these are removed from archive for any reason I can make my cloud link public again, but to save on bandwidth, directing users to archive seems like the best route forward for the time being.

I doubt they'll be taken down, they've had terabytes (exabytes?) of ...uh... shall we say "legal grey area" files on there for years now, rarely anything ever gets "DMCA"'ed that I've seen, and as I understand it there's absolutely nothing illegal about simply redistributing GPL3 licensed software as it was provided to the public.

Once rebranding is complete, the plan as I see it, is to redistribute heavily modified rebuilds which should also be perfectly legal (see OpenOffice / LibreOffice being given as an example recently), so that other mere mortals like myself don't have to go through the trouble of trying to compile from source themselves.

How can I use LiveCode to write my memoirs?":
That's a good question to answer though.
  1. Collect all your pictures, letters, etc
  2. Record them digitally with with your phone or scanner
  3. Save them to folders named by year or theme or relationship
  4. Write up some text about them
  5. Run these scripts to load them, display them in order and read/display the text
  6. Run this script to make a PDF
  7. Run a script like this to make it a slideshow
  8. Run this script and use this other program to make a video while you go get coffee
You should upload all your stacks to Github. Can be one repository or several.
All that popping around between facebook and dropbox is tedious, plus i don't have a facebook account so they kicked me out after scrolling for a bit.
How to add images to github repository

I would like to see a port of OpenXTalk for the Raspberry Pi, because the Pi was designed for education, and there are lots of users that would love the OpenXTalk style of coding.

I would like that as well, and I think it should be at minimal possible to do that based on the LC7 engine, there build targets are still there in the newer versions. I'm not sure what the issue is with compiling the newer versions for RPi, but Builder and Widgets in the newer versions would help make a RPi version far more useful for education and for Maker hobbyists.
