Oddly enough I found a licence document on one of my backup disks
so was able to install both 3.5.0 and 4.0.0 on my MacOS 10.6.8 machine.

Thanks for the links. It certainly is interesting to look back at these pre-open-source versions. I've played around with some even older MetaCard versions.
I was looking at the old open-source IDE mod called FreeGUI, from the "FreeCard" project which had similar goals. They stated they were looking to replace the underlying, non-opensource MC engine, with something open (which I gather they were also working on), something we don't need to do now thanks to the Kickstarter(s), although I'm not against replacing engines or perhaps even adding alternate engines (can we reenable the PowerPC standalone builder? How about enabling Unix standalones? or whatever else).
On the decade-old-computer rebuild, I currently have LCC 6.6.1 (because it was still on one of the HDDs), v6.6.5, and v8.1.x
I'm planning to conduct some tests on that soon to see if I can get parts of LCC 9.x, which requires macOS 10.9+, to run in LCC 8.x which is macOS 10.6 compatible. I think the Extension Builder CLI compiler binary is a good candidate for that sort of "Backporting". They're actually self contained things (1 CLI compiles and the other can run the bytecode), not part of the Engine(s). Those can run entirely on their own, independent of the xTalk Engine(s). The LCC 9.x Builder has the Builder Foreign Function Interface while LCC 8.x Builder had no FFI. I think it would be great to have that extra extensibility available to the macOS 10.6 hold-outs and retro fans.

macOS 10.6 compatible
is, I'm afraid, a bit ambiguous . . .

For instance, I run 10.6 on a 32-bit iMac (early 2006); there is, also a 64-bit version.

If I want to be totally, 100% selfish, my reason for wanting an OXT version that will run on 10.6, 10.7 with
the capabilities of LC 9.6.3 is that current LC 8.1.10 does not cover quite a few of glyphs introduced in
the 12, 13 and 14 Unicode standards, and on which I depend. The ability to run off standalones of my
"big stinker" that would function 100% on 10.6, 10.7 and 10.8 (even 32-bit) would be amazing.

Theoretically, I will be trying to build that "9.7.0" thing from the git repository on 10.6 this weekend . . .

Can we reenable the PowerPC standalone builder?
LC 6.6.5 was the last version to run & be able to produce standalones for Mac PPC.

So, for anything based on a version of LiveCode after that, presumably a new PPC IDE and standalone engine would
have to be constructed.

The 8.2.0 Dp 2 release (Then they just hopped to version 9.0.0) is a 64-bit version that can build standalones for both 32-bit and 64-bit Macintosh.
