Re: OpenXTalk Lite 0.92 Download Links...
So, strange question, but what bit are you supposed to click to select a colour?
Is it the point of the pencil, or would it be the actual pencil label to also choose between dark to light shading of that colour?
It does not look very... well, I was going to write professional, but I'm not sure of the best word.
Yes, some interface elements from the 90's and early 2000's were good, but this really wasn't.
What would be wrong with: (apart from the fact that it's ripped from Gimp)
Actually, back in 1999 they didn't see what was wrong with a colour wheel selector.
This relates to what is taught in secondary schools in Art lessons, with regards to complientary colours. The crayons box looks a bit primary school level. Kid pix esque.

Is there anything obviously WRONG about ripping from GIMP?
Looks like a wonderful idea, if you can manage it.

Well, not that what the team maintaining Gimp are doing anything bad, but they are using a similar layout - a tried and tested colour picker, not the box of crayons dialog. I can remember this being in previous MacOS versions, and always disabled the tab with ResEdit. In fact, I remember there being various extensions, and later haxies, to remove that dialog as it was regarded one of the most lamentable design decisions in DTP (which I was heavily involved in). There was a hack to replace it with a pantone colours book instead, which was far more useful than the 'box of pencils' approach.

The pointy bit? As in a prison shank?
Never heard of Shank being used to describe any bit of a pencil

Apple spoil their users, proving infantile crayons for types like me, and other stuff for more mature types like yourself:
- -
These are accessible if one tries to change colours of objects:
- -
So . . . just maybe . . . the BEST thing is to allow users to access that system thing.

Yes, which is what's there under the "Other.." option at the bottom of the menu.richmond62 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 07, 2023 7:00 pm So . . . just maybe . . . the BEST thing is to allow users to access that system thing.

Well, if you want to start having a 'bitch' about what Apple think looks sexy, don't let me stop you, but they are as likely to listen to thee as they are to me: i.e. not at all.
- -
And I'm absolutely sure that Mr Hairstyle 100 won't even bother to lend you his comb.
- -
AND, whether you like it or not, that is what end-users are used to and have come to expect.
Ah well, in spite of my kinky obsession about Craig, I really do rather prefer my wife [even if her hair cannot compete], so I am off to bed.

Oh yes, you are abolutely right. I'm well aware that my opinion means absolutely nothing to them and they don't give a flying-fish about what I find disagreeable in their OS. Having worked in Apple Retail in the past carries no weight with them either.richmond62 wrote: ↑Sat Oct 07, 2023 7:46 pm Well, if you want to start having a 'bitch' about what Apple think looks sexy, don't let me stop you, but they are as likely to listen to thee as they are to me: i.e. not at all.
Anyway, Poor Craig.
He's looking old these days. "Do your shirt up mate"
I think you may have Craig-related issues, haha.
What were we talking about? Oh yeah - colour selector options.
Those little colour swatches, I can definitely make those clickable to bring up the colour selection dialog.
I'll reduce the ridiculous amount of options in that menu. (That was rather silly of me to have left all those option in to be honest), but that's entirely my error.

There we go, all done. Refined the amount of colours you can select, and made the swatches clickable.
This is uploaded in the changes as normal, but if you want just this change, it's attached.- richmond62

That's really wonderful; keeps everyone happy:

AND, re bashing Craig: ever since I got past the age when I felt I had to prove my manliness (about 26) I have kept my chest hairs under wraps.

That is far, far better than my top bar: as with my top bar, one click on the MenuBar and the thing would pop back to the "start position" and then me immovable.

The only objection [and not one that fusses me] will be that it does not 'jive' with Apple's HUG stuff.
Actually it looks like something from an XFCE panel.

Of course we could save ourselves a lot of work by using the colour chooser palette from Metacard:
- -
Which, at least, would guarantee consistency cross-platform.

Re: OpenXTalk Lite 0.92 Download Links...
I am trying to add controls to allow end-users to muck around with the colour of the 'Tools' and the 'Menubar' stacks, but have run up against something very odd indeed.
On the 'Appearance' card of the 'revPreferencesGUI' stack everything vanishes below about 370 pixels and at about 500 pixels to the right: so, there would seem to be either an 'L'-shaped image/graphic set to obscure things, or something else.
BUT I cannot for the life of me work out what it is (and should like to remove it).
This screenshot illustrates the situation clearly, as you will see how it obscures a large pink field I have positioned to illustrate the point:
- -
It does NOT seem to be anything to do with the group "Navigation" as that extends below 370 pixels:

Hmm, I can't see what you mean... because, as you say it's obscured. Do you mean there appears to be something where I've drawn the red rectangle?richmond62 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2023 1:35 pm This screenshot illustrates the situation clearly, as you will see how it obscures a large pink field I have positioned to illustrate the point
