Quite a difference one's locality can make in what THEY make of a single word, eh?

I read a bit about urban planning, SimCity, Will Wright. He said factories spit out "widgets," or tangible objects. The "I" zones.

The "C" zones were services, and the others were for Sims to live in ("R" zones that are green, if I remember right.)

To clarify, this was all included in the manuals and documentation for Some Other Company's software which is now open source and referred to as "Micropolis."

I don't think I'd have called anything a 'Widget', since I believe that was always meant to be an ambiguous term like 'thing', and the fact that the term has been used for so many other things like those macOS/iOS doodads. but extension object modules were already called 'Widgets' when we got it.

It would be a nice tribute to call them Frinaldis (the other suggestions were hilarious though).
Sorry this went all the way off topic of the OP.

You're right, I'm gonna redirect re: my distro.
But yes, YES! It means thing, it is ambiguous.
That was 90's Midwest slang, I bet it was in the Valley before that.
I apologize as well for getting so off topic.

Edit: What it means is, I did a thing. Here you go. If it's an OSS thing? No charge.
I *KNOW* you want to hand me money, and I refuse it.

Now, flash forward to modern mac OS (ew) / iOS / tvOS. Built all upon Mach.
Why not have ONE APP that does what TEN of them do?

Too 80's for ya? lol...

Where we're going? We don't need... roads.
