I have never tried "the thing previously called RealBASIC": in fact, although at 14-16 and 27-now I have been messing around with BBC BASIC (on BBC Micro machines), the only 'more up-to-date' BASIC I have ever tried was MicroSoft Visual BASIC 5 as part of my MSc at the sinkhole of Abertay: and, like almost everything else at the 'University of Abertay' is was definitely an inferior product when compared with Runtime Revolution 2.0 in 2003: in fact SO INFERIOR that when I went home I would do all the lab exercises with RunRev and take them back the next day to stick up the nose of the lecturer who could not fight her way out of a paper bag, let alone manage Visual BASIC 5 (made myself popular by correcting her during lectures based on what I had studied 25 years before!).

What DOES interest me is that it comes with an IDE.

Mind you, so did shitty VB5. And in 2003 VB5 seemed to have lost a lot of the virtues of BBC BASIC, and acquired none of the virtues of RunRev 2.

1. That seems a bit odd . . .

2. Does that mean that Xojo is dying a slow death?

3. Personally I feel a bit 'lumpy' when any programming language has to rely on other programming languages to achieve its full capacity.

Personally I feel a bit 'lumpy' when any programming language has to rely on other programming languages to achieve its full capacity.

To be fair, you could say the same about LCC/OXT - they both rely on C++ and a bit of Python to do anything meaningful.

In fact, you could take that a step further and ponder that everything is essentially broken down to assembly and ultimately binary anyway - so there's lots of abstraction taking place. The more layers, the slower the end result.
