THIS is where OXT needs to take over:
Yes, LiveCode 10 will be the last feature version of Classic and will ship this summer. The release candidate for that is now available.
We are no longer selling LiveCode Classic to new customers. If you do not have an existing subscription to LiveCode Classic, then you need to purchase LiveCode Create going forward.
Classic will go into maintenance mode after we ship version 10. It will receive no new features but will have bug fixes and we will maintain compatibility with supported operating systems until 2027.
So: any 'newbie' wanting an equivalent of LiveCode 'Classic' CANNOT have it: BUT they CAN have OXT. 8-)

Of course LC also help us by making NO Demo of 'Create' available.

Obviously LiveCode are also left-wing types (funny considering their own business practices) as they ONLY provide FREE educational versions to State Schools:
We will provide free access to LiveCode Create to public high schools teaching programming with the platform. Please contact us to apply. A Fair Use limit will apply. Please note this license is only available to elementary schools, middle schools and high schools taking state students without charge. Private or fee-paying schools, courses, colleges and universities need to continue to pay for licensing.

That's only a good thing if they're going to go out and convince schools to actually adopt it over other free tools with no strings attached that are far more popular, like JS and Python based tools.
Education was certainly one of the target audiences that Apple was pursuing with HyperCard, which did introduce a good amount of kids of whole generation to scripting/coding, but there was no Squeaks, Alice, Python, or JS back then. That was a much different time.

We should also be aware that the LiveCode forums may stop being available sometime in the relatively near future, and whatever you think of LiveCode and what is happening now, they are an extremely useful resource for learning.

I agree, I've saved many relevant pages from forum threads as PDF files from there, just so I have my own copy of any good information saved offline.
