Let's NOT indulge in unjustifiable Hyperbolae over here . . .

https://www.theregister.com/2021/09/06/ ... interview/

"The company has had considerable impact in computer science education in Scotland"

Really?

A few schools in the Edinburgh area do not constitute "a considerable impact"

All of which are private schools, and, while I am a great fan of private enterprise, do not really
"count" insofar as about 5% of the children in Scotland go to private schools.

At the last glance the claim is that 25% of schools in Scotland (a country of about 6 million people)
are using LiveCode, although I have not seen this born out by web searches.

I believe that at one time a far, far larger number of people were using HyperCard . . . something that people
wibble on about endlessly yet stop short of taking up any "HyperCard +" offering such as SuperCard or LiveCode.

There was a few things I took issue with in that article / interview, but I don't know anything about the CompSci education in Scotland so that wasn't one of them.

On thing I had a problem with him saying was that 'runs on Raspberry Pi' bit, very misleading unless they have some secret closed source builds we don't know about! There was only two Linux ARM builds that ran on RPi (and I assume similar single board computers), one from 6.x and one from 7.x but those happened years ago now.

Most of the claims made in that interview were either

outdated

inflated

partly untrue

but given that person and his company's approach to marketing and the latest cock-up of
gargantuan proportions re customer/user relations and direct experience that that person
has an active fantasy life, I am not surprised in the slightest.

I went to my dentist this morning and she offered me a choice of what to do where one of
my top teeth had had to be pulled out completely: I looked her straight in the eye and told
her, "I am an English teacher, know nothing about dentistry, and the choice must rest with you."

I bet that person tells his dentist what to do . . .

We, as a nascent community, must try to avoid making any claims whatsoever beyond something of this sort:

'This is the ongoing Open Source fork of what was previously known as LiveCode Community.'

Doesn't give me much satisfaction writing the above, because, without that person we'd be stuck with MetaCard
which was only coloured HyperCard running on other operating systems. But he really should stick to what he
is good at and get other people to do other things.
