A few glitches

I post this here, because there is no topic about the forum.

Someone in the FB group said he can't register here. Are you aware of any problems with registering?

Whenever I post a message, I get an error: The submitted form was invalid. Try submitting again. I press Submit immediately and then it works. Perhaps you need to check the setting that determines when a web form that has been opened expires. (It is an anti-spam measure).

I've seen that with every post I've made here too. Thought it was just me, as I've never seen PHPBB do that before.

This was actually something that I purposely implemented in attempt to thwart spam.

I just cleaned out a bunch more Spambots.

Those Spambots are doing their level best to bugger these forums: more strength to your elbow!

I almost stopped posting when I saw that, because it looked like a bug.

It may help thwart bots, but it'll stop a good many humans along the way.

I wonder if Discourse has better bot filters. If nothing else it's a good way to be discoverable to the demographic more likely to contribute to a FOSS project.

I keep hearing about this Discourse from the kids, I guess they use it for the gamer things (I don't see PC gamers moving to M1 for gaming computer), Something to consider I think after we actually have an IDE without the words LiveCode inserted into minute aspects within it (which would come along with a few changes and additions).

Yes, Discourse began as a medium for gaming comms, but given the popularity of gaming and the overlap between that audience and FOSS-friendly devs it's become quite popular across a lot of successful projects, including Ubuntu.

FWIW, if there's anything I've learned over my career it's that infrastructure for external communications only becomes ever more challenging to change as content grows in older infrastructure. Over time this becomes a compounding issue, as the need for better tools becomes ever more evident as the older methods become ever more entrenched.

Oh the stories I could tell...

That's one of the reasons why I want some sort of open stack encapsulation format, more abstraction layer(s) between deliverable stack/substack card/ etc. the executable with content and the underlying xTalk engine.

I want to dissect and document and distill the entire notion of an xTalk environment as much as I possibly can. What makes it an "xTalk", from the basic objects and properties and object property inheritance (that should probably be HyperCard 1.2 as the reference platform) to qualify as an xTalk, to the latest versions of it with all the bells and whistles, that have Script grammar such as CASE/SWITCH which wasn't available in the older reference platforms.

Feel free to tell.

In my head I tend to combine /mix up Discord (Gamer oriented platform: https://top.gg/servers ) and Discourse (https://www.discourse.org ).

The idea with a Discord server for OXT I find not so wrong.

For a simple and fast communication, screensharing, videotalk, etc. this is just ideal. especially since Discord is not limited to one platform.

by the way, not only gamers use the Discord system.

I realize the platforms themselves are 'genre' agnostic. I'm just old and un-hip I guess, ...I haven't done any gaming things since like CoD World at War. I have done some YouTube videos and would like to do more.

Maybe I should talk to my TikTok "Influencer" nieces (twins) about how to really make OXT go viral. They made a clip of my mom (Granny) into a viral meme, 130K views, my mom is a meme, LOL!

...
Had the problem. I don't know why, but I tried for a few days now and almost lost faith. There was no error-message whatsoever, I just came back to the terms of use.

Finally it worked: I just used user / mail / pwd and did not change time zone as in the first attempts. Don't know if that's the reason?

If I can't again find the setting to correct this behavior, I may just have to re-install phpBB, but I'll make sure to make a back up everything here for safe keeping first. It wasn't even effective, the thing that turned out to be most effective against bots was the most simple asking a question.
