Rejig the Preferences

This stack will 'poison' your 'revpreferencesGUI' stack [tested on LC 961]:

Feel 100% free to hack it about to suit your requirements . . . :D

Oh, AND try NOT to hit the 'Save' button until you are 100% happy about what is being done.

Poke around in the button scripts, AND expand the stack to about 800 x 800 pixels to see the hidden bits.

I wonder about removing the menu items on the left, but cannot quite decide.

Mind you, I don't know WHAT those 'funny grey blobs' are, or where they come from:

New sizer buttons and whatnot [turned out that the 'previous recension' was putting non-integers into the field].

As I have NOT provided just a UNITARY BUTTON to make all these changes you can use the sections selectively to mod the Prefs of LiveCode releases to suit your needs.

This is brilliant stuff Richmond.
Do you mind if I incorporate this into the changes list, and a revised preferences stack to go with it with those sections hidden?

Oddly enough, most of this I worked out about 20 years ago when I did a Masters degree with RR/LC.

In that case, well remembered!

There's only one change I would suggest.
That's under Linux, the user doesn't have permissions to save the changes to the stack, and silently it'll fail to save.
My workaround is holding the shift-key, so it "Saves a Copy" to your desktop. That way you can always move it in with sudo later.

I love it though. It'll enable me to fool around with the preferences, eventually adding in more user control over colour choices and other bits we want to add.

Linux distros and their 'highly individualised' file paths serve to remind us of the price of freedom, and the advantages of slavery.

My favourite situation is MacOS with ONLY Open Source apps . . . so I can think of myself as an Apple 'courtesan' rather than an out-and-out tart. 8-)

My 'go to' place is the Application Browser /Development/Plugins/] (I don't like the Project Browser):

Though those have no SAVE button . . . not that it should be a problem to add one.

Erm, obviously I'm going senile, as on a restart of the IDE I see that the changes to the Application Browser have stuck. 8-)

I like these icons a lot, and am very proud of them:

I have to say, I do like the coloured icons on the Application Browser.
Perhaps, not so much the monster ones.

The stack and substack icons, again I personally think the ones on the "coloured icons" version are clearer. When you see them in the vertical list like that, it's perhaps easier to differentiate between stacks and substacks. Or, perhaps we can give stacks a slight tint of one colour, and substacks another?

I like the Livecode 'Gadfly' branding too.
LC really missed a trick there.

LC have been missing tricks for at least 23 years.

The boss of LC is a very talented computer programmer . . .

I wonder WHO is any good at interface design over there?

Or is it just that, despite all the 'guff' about listening to feedback, they have never acted on it?

I've also included a revised Preferences dialog, with your fixes applied, in both of the "Lite" download versions.
I suppose I'll have to bite the bullet and try and make a Windows version...
