Version 0.95 is now live and uploaded.
Please post any comments in this section. Many thanks. Please note, download links have all changed (I've shifted server & how it's hosted). If you link to this on another site, you'll definitely need to change your links as they will all be broken.

Trying to import the certificate as per your instructions results in this:

BUT, completely random joy . . . the thing worked anyway WITHOUT any codesigning, without 'nuffin':

I am obviously hopelessly naive as I always thoought computers worked logically. 8-)

It will be interesting to see what 0.95 does on my MacOS 12 machine at home (where my Devawriter code is) . . .

Tonight I shall run off a couple of quick-n-dirty Mac standalones, bung them on a flash drive and see what happens when I try them out here.

Good, good.
I think you'd only get the error on importing the certificate in keychain if an option other than "login' is selected in that import dialog. Glad it's working though, and at least proves my approach 'has legs'.

It's probably overkill for most users, but better to cover every eventuality was my train of thought.

So, now, after you have been suffused by a warm, snuggly glow, let's bring you down to earth with some good, old-fashioned "bitchin'":

I assume Dark mode has been disabled [my MacOS Sonoma box is 100% Dark mode]; and that doesn't really fuss me.

But I wonder about the 'gray' text box in the messageBox.

One of the serious downsides of living in Bulgaria is that the only jelly babies available (and intermittently at that) are the Haribo ones, which are most definitely inferior to the Bassett's ones.

Well, "here we go": I have built a MacOS standalone from a fairly simplistic stack:

And it RUNS on this machine (i.e. the one it was made on.

I am attaching the source stack for your personal misery. 8-)

For some reason I am unable to attach a ZIP with the standalone inside it.

Please see release notes from 0.94, this is when I turned it off.
viewtopic.php?f=16&p=4646#p4646
(Because I'm not happy with the implementation of it, and it should be fixed via the engine).
richmond62 wrote: Mon Nov 27, 2023 10:35 am But I wonder about the 'gray' text box in the messageBox.
Please check the colour settings in Preferences > Script Editor > "Background Color"
This is because someone could be on an OS which tries to theme the colour of the messagebox with the system scheme, and if the syntax colouring is set to "Revolution classic", then it would be unreadable if the message box is rendered in dark mode. (which it would be in Linux, as (appearance-awareness-wise) linux is head and shoulders above MacOS and Windows)

You specifically have to set a background colour (another possible option is you can use the sample tool on your colour picker and pick your MacOS window colour if you want the same lighter grey as your OS).

Aha: gottit: but this probably needs to be documented in fairly large letters for cheese-brains like me (and 75% o f the potential end-users):

Well, granted: they might wonder why it's slightly darker than the rest of the messagebox - but my thinking was along the lines of 'better to make sure what you type in there is visible', and I was trying to ensure it was with every OS and preference combo in mind.

This is always where it gets tricky, trying to plan for every eventuality. And because everyone can have their own personal colour scheme (I'm using the Vibrant option most of the time, but with the background set to 'Cobalt' because that goes nicely with the rest of the IDE on linux).

Thing is, you can now mix-and-match to your heart's content, and that was the goal. User customisable options everywhere if at all possible.

Well, as per my previous post, it DID run a standalone hived-off from 0.95 here [i.e. on the machine it was generated on].

Don't worry about forgetting to copy those standalones. It's not really a day lost, I mean we aren't under any time pressure as far as I know. I'm glad it opens for you fine on the other Mac, and I'm also glad you prefer the new splash screen - I thought the lightbulb has had its day. (I only choose the lightbulb as OXT Lite was always going to be where I tried out new ideas), but I like where it's going.
I just hope everyone else feels the same about it?

I think my key aim is improving functionality while not reinventing the wheel - just trying to fix what I can see is broken, and not buried deep in the engine.

I think your key aim is exactly what is required right now.

When you release a version 1.0 anyone who wants can then 'take it and run with it'.

Personally, beyond a Mac ARM engine, there is nothing further than your key aims that I would want.

Any Youtube videos I make will NOT feature these things:

1. Widgets.

2. DataGrids.

3. Arrays.

4. Mucking around with databases.

I don't tend to use any of the above either... well, maybe arrays as I've just been looking at rejigging the inspector palette. That is on my to-do-list, although it's a bit lower down. I've been fixing a few loop conditions I've found here and there in the IDE.

Whilst in the IDE, and not fooling around with engine code (I need a rest from staring at C++), I updated the grab handle (for those who have it turned on) on the revMenubar stack. It now looks more like a grab handle.

New download link to DropBox for Lite .95 updated on my webpage and tested. Congratulations to tperry on .95 release. Well done.

YouTube videos are a good idea if short and instructional with high quality image/production. Bad idea if jerky handheld out-of-focus mush. Maybe view/vote videos before making public? These will reflect on public perception of OXT.

Yes, Paul could clean-up a few typos in the new openxtalk.org menu pages, but I thank him for adding them as a nice improvement to the site.

Thanks Terry, much appreciated.

Looking at all the resources available on your site, this is all great readily downloadable sample content. So much so, I wonder if it's a good idea to produce some of the videos also using these stacks as tutorials?

I also wanted to reinstate the sample stacks in OXT lite at some stage, and wanted it to no longer reference any LC servers. So, I wondered if you wouldn't mind me using these and linking them as downloadable with thumbnail previews from within OXT Lite?

What a relief: downloaded 0.95 from the DropBox place and installed it on my MacOS 12 iMac without so much as a backward look!

Ra! Ra! Ra! That man did well!

Thanks Richmond. 0.96 is already in the works, so if there's any features anyone would like adding, now would be good to let me know. Having said all that, I'd like to refine my updater too. Please see https://www.openxtalk.org/forum/viewtop ... 4924#p4924

edit: I'll shelve that idea, as it would raise too many hackles from end-users. (It's bad enough running an untrusted app). For it to then ask for admin permissions would be a big red flag. I'll just keep the copy-and-paste into terminal method.

You may find you have to reign-in my 'creativity' at times

I'll have to test the multiple monitors thing on a Mac, linux and windows.
