Instead of saying "Be there, or be square." it might be more appropriate to say, "Be there, or be up to date." :D

Once you have actually managed to locate some hardware to run RunRev 2 on you should be aware that you CAN use it for FREE: the restriction is that you are only allowed 10 lines of functional code in each object.

You can get round this (I did extensively for my Master's degree thesis project) by 'chaining' code snippets a bit like this:

Code: Select all

on mouseUp
do field "code1"
do fld "code2"
send "mouseUp" to button "moreCrap"
I used this with MacOS 10.2 and 10.3 to author quite a lot of software for the University of St. Andrews using RunRev 2 (they would NOT stump up the money for a licence - say no more): and having Quicktime installed on my G3 iMac enabled me to play films and AIFF files through RunRev without any obvious problems.

Um... A bit stymied.
Can't register for a trial because the page does not exist.

You don't need to register for a trial, the 10-line thing should work anyway.

Unfortunately, the only options I'm given are:

Enter registration information
Continue as a trial

Obviously I don't have any registration information, so have to click 'Continue as a Trial'

It then says exit or sign in with an account.

Sign in with an account obviously does not work anymore.

Exit... well, exits to the desktop.

Hmm: that's a load of old bollo.

Tomorrow, if I manage to find the time (largely dedicating tomorrow to going on a hike to pick juniper berries and juniper sprigs

https://youtu.be/-nqC-Byo1SE, : clean up a mountain chapel - dig old wax from candles out of the candelabra, remove major cobwebs, bung 3-4 boxes of matches, bung 20-30 candles where they should be, clean icons, hack loads of cherry resin off cherry trees for immersion in vodka for major exercise in getting completely and utterly smashed out of my box in about 2-3 months, exercise 61 year old legs and lungs, breath fresh air, and various other justifications of varying validity) I'll crack open my G4 Mac Mini and see what gives with RR 2.0 and get back re . . .

Meanwhile, if you do not want to devote your Saturday evening to more important things such as your significant other(s), you can fool around with MetaCard.

Oh, and by-ther-way, you can unpack the MetaCard stuff to yield some stacks that, oddly enough, are not totally useless about 20 years after MetaCard went down the tubes.

Actually. No. It's 100% true.
Perhaps it's different on MacOS 9, but I doubt it.
Do you remember you had the same problem trying to run older versions of livecode (think it was 4 or something). You found you couldn't open them because you needed a license, which you already had.

Does that ring a bell?
viewtopic.php?p=1753#p1753
Same story here with this runrev 2 version.

If you'd not had a license, then you'd have been stuck. Just like I'm mentioning above presumably.
So no, not "bollo"

Wrestle with your morals for 60 seconds:

Frankly, as you will NOT be producing anything of any marketable value from this I don't think you need to lose any sleep over running a licensed version of 2.6.1. But then I'm not you. 8-)

BEFORE you have fun with RunRev, have some fun upgrading your MacOS 10.4 install to MacOS Shuriken: this will hop-up your machine to something that is quite a bit better than 10.4.11:

That's good and everything, and I'm sure a lot of effort has gone into this.
One aspect of that has me concerned:
o The Shuriken App Store; your personal launchpad for the best-in-class apps and websites
Immediately rings alarm bells as what other 'apps' are included in here? How do we know where the "Shuriken App Store" is pulling these from?

What assurances do we have that this is free of malware or anything more nefarious?

I think I'll stick to my 'vanilla' install DVD image for the time being as it's functioning well at the moment.

Dunno: I have been running it for over a year without a backward glance. 8-)
