Aha . . .

So . . .

Bitten the "bullet" at last.

Will I make your weekend misery?

I doubt it very much indeed as what I see already is a fantastic advance and separation from LC 963: and at least the first battle has been one.

Now it may be the problem is how to move from independence to "a nation once again". Which may not prove so easy.

1. Tomorrow, at school, try 1.0 on Sonoma.

2. Weekend, at home, try 1.0 on Monterey.

Certainly, this summer, I will offer classes for the prepubescent crowd using OXT (Lite) rather than LC 963, on Xubuntu.

Owing to the fact I have caught some sort of bug things will be arsy-versy: No Sonoma check until Monday, I'm afraid, as under "house arrest" with a jolly temperature.

Currently downloading "The Big One" onto my MacOS 12 box.

I really wonder how necessary the ZIP in an DMG situation really is?

OK, OK: before we get to your points . . .

I do like your new Tools palette icons.

BUT I wonder WHAT that blue 'thing' is top-dead centre that was present on first opening:

At startup that should NOT be high-lighted.

Ouch, Err, OK: the quack says I have to get to the town for her to shove a spatula down my throat (sheer joy), a thermometer up my bum, and probably, knowing her, several even more exotic humiliations.

So your OXT Lite 'shopping list' will have to wait for my return.

However, owing to several factors, this coming week I will have the opportunity to try things out on Xubuntu Linux. 8-)

Bad Luck all you lot who were hoping . . .

. . . the doctor did her sadistic stuff: and I will live (although with a somewhat sore bum).

So here I am at my school and waiting for my wife to collect me in about 2 hours . . . so let's see about installing OXT Lite 1.0 on MacOS Sonoma.

And there is exactly the same problem with the selection as there was when I installed on MacOS 12 this morning:

The left edge of the MenuBar stack is off-screen, the top is behind the Mac Menu:

"A couple of typo-fixes to the preferences stack"

That's a bit funny: the 'Preferences' stack is called 'Settings' in the Menu . . .

The Preferences stack looks like a hybrid between Motif and Macintosh:

SShot 2024-01-26 at 16.18.45.png (70.69 KiB) Viewed 861 times

Probably the worst bit are the fields; which would look a lot nicer like this:

SShot 2024-01-26 at 16.24.39.png
SShot 2024-01-26 at 16.24.39.png (9.75 KiB) Viewed 861 times
-
i.e. deselect the '3D' for all the fields.

Oh, and while attempting to look up 'lookAndFeel' in the Dictionary another "merry feature" became obvious:

Dictionary now supports dark mode
Not so, I'm afraid.

In 'Light' mode the Dictionary now is even worse than when in 'Dark' mode:

Left: OXTL 1.0, Right: OXTL 0.99

You did, and they are a vast improvement.
Appearance theme (light / dark) now also changes tool icons
On MacOS 14 I could see NO evidence of that.

(Not that it fusses me in the slightest).

Splash screen updated (not that you get to see it for that long now!)
Quite honestly I did not notice any difference.

To summarise:

1. The Dictionary is currently useless.

2. From a highly subjective point of view I don't like your new icons in the App Browser.

3. The initial high-lighting of the Select Grouped button on the MenuBar needs to go.

Big congratulation for the 1.0 release tPerry2x!!!
Great work.

I would like to have the arrow as Browse tool and not a pointing hand.

Thanks

Quite honestly, I can't replicate any of your issues
http://tsites.co.uk/sites/openxtalk/tes ... des-v1.mp4

This is how the icons change on the tool palette, how the theme changes, how the windows change etc. This is how it's supposed to work. Don't know why it doesn't work once again on your mac. I've tested on 4 macs, ranging from 10.15 to Monterey and they all work fine.

To summarise:

No it's not - check the dictionary appearance theme in the dictionary's settings

They are the OXT Lite document icons. I didn't much like the previous ones as they don't relate to anything, but that's your opinion.

I can't replicate that, but then you have other appearance issues with your mac anyway.

Thanks Mic.
This is probably a side-effect of it being suggested that I clear all out the icons from the 'revIcons.rev' stack. It's probably broken something.
I'll try putting the original one back in (as it only saved about 800k) and probably breaks more than it's worth.

All my tests were conducted on MacOS 14.3 Sonoma.

I will see what 'gives' on MacOS 12.7.3 Monterey this weekend.

Certainly I saw what I saw; and, as you can see, I made some comparisons with 0.99.

The cursor issue should now be fixed if you run the updater.

If you are unsure of how to run the updater, a video guide is here

So: here I am at home with MacOS 12 and experiencing exactly what I did with MacOS 14:

How WOULD a new-user KNOW to fiddle around here? Usability SHOULD be a big consideration: especially for new users.

On MacOS 12 the MenuBar stack is NOT 'off' at the left, but the Window bar is still too high.

OXT Lite document icons. I didn't much like the previous ones as they don't relate to anything, but that's your opinion.
The previous ones were supplied by me: and I did NOT force you to use them: they were designed by me about 10 years ago as, at that point at least, the LiveCode icons in the App browser were awful.

How the document icons 'relate' is a question: especially as you continue to use my "card" icons.

Stack, subStack, Card icons in OXT 1.0

I assume that the pink smudge at the bottom of the OXT icon should say 'OXT': which seems a bit odd as OXT cannot be made out.

Stack, subStack, Card icons in LC 8.1.10 (at least they look as if they might be related)

I designed my icons with reference to the stack of cards metaphor which was central to HyperCard and its successors.

I tried to make the 3 icons so there was some visual connexion between them: I deliberately avoided the POLYCHROMIC kitsch that obviously both you, and Paul, seem to think is a good thing.
